25/01/12 - Fundraising & Fun

Well done to all who helped raise £89 at Long Sutton CO-OP, and £160 with the December collection of bags2schools, keep up the good work! Also the new hoodies are here and they look great.

05/01/12 - First meeting of the New Year

Welcome back everyone! After a good break over Christmas to recharge and refocus, Explorers started again in South Holland this week. Spalding unit spent the night planning challenges for each other to be tackled in two weeks time - will they manage to earn as many points as possible?! Spalding's unit Forum prepared tents for Winter camp at the weekend, and put some detail to the programme for the next few months. Let's make 2012 bigger and better!

18-20/11/11 - Christmas Camp

This years winter camp was held at RAF Cranwell - We were joined by Beavers, Cubs and Scouts from all corners of the county, for a fun packed weekend in the fog! And to top it all Zoe was picked to escort our Chief Scout Bear Grylls around the site, followed by a pack of eager autograph hunters, a camp to remember I think!

09/10/11 - Rabbit Run Results

Our brave Explorers went up against the might of the county, to try and bring home a trophy or two in the annual Rabbit Run event. Although the Explorers didn't complete the tasks within the time frame, Fishnet (South Holland Network) came a very respectable second place. Well done to all who attended this excellent event, thank you for your support (Explorers, Network, Leaders and helpers alike). With a little more training next year we should bring the silverware home.

08/09/11 - First Night Back

Holbeach came over to Spalding tonight - 54 Explorers in one place - come on! Excellent night map and compass work, preparing for winning the Rabbit Run in October!

22/07/11 - Summer Fun

So Andy has a puppy, Mark Dennis has his Wood beads, the Unit are off to York for summer camp, and Sam is on his way to the 22nd World jamboree in Sweden. Life just doesn't get better than this for "Probably the best Explorer unit in the world!"

06/01/11 - First District Forum

2011 started with the first district forum.  At the end of last year the old Unit forum was replaced with the election of 2 new forums, one for Holbeach Unit and one for Spalding Unit.  These two Unit forums now make up the District forum headed up by our District Youth Representative, Guy Beavis, taking the Chair.

11/11/10 - Top Award Achieved

Jacob Wing has become the first Holbeach & Spalding Explorer to earn the highest young participation award in scouting, the Queen's Scout Award.  18 months hard work have paid off, and in May 2011, Jacob's achievements will be recognised by Royals at Windsor, along with DESC Sam Raines, who earnt the award last month.

 04/11/10 - Bonfire Night

Another great evening outdoors at our District campsite. This time joined by Spalding Rangers and Senior Section for a night of guy making, campfire songs and of course marshmallows. Some had more success toasting their marshmallows than others - just ask Sam Raines! It was a shame it was too windy, as we had planned to release lanterns - maybe next time. Thank you to all who helped to prepare the evening, and thank you to the guides.

29/10/10 - Bag Pack @ Tesco's, Holbeach

Friday evening and all day Saturday, some very willing volunteers from the unit helped to pack bags at the Tesco's supermarket in Holbeach. The store was holding its annual charity weekend, and the unit helped to raise money for CLIC Sargent, the stores charity of the year. CLIS Sargent is a charity helping children diagnosed with cancer. Look out for our picture in the paper along with store staff and the Holbeach Fire Brigade.

28/10/10 - Halloween Party

The unit met up with Spalding Senior section for a evening of Ghouls and Games! Fancy dress was a must. Thank you to the Guides for a fun evening - see you in a week for Bonfire Night along with the Rangers!

14/10/10 - Scalextric

What a night . . . we welcomed 6 new members to the unit and spent the evening racing around some of the worlds big racing circuits.  Top lap count was held by Ben Wilson!

09/10/10 - Big Achievements

Tanya Derrick was presented her Chief Scout Diamond award, shortly before being awarded her Explorer Belt, along with fellow Explorer Michael Dormer and DESC Sam Raines.

03/10/10 - Rabbit Run 2010

A very wet but fun weekend, packed with Go-Karting, Archery, Ten-Pin Bowling and various other field games, all leading up to the Rabbit Run Night Hike!

This year 3 teams were entered, Tanya Derrick led her team into 2nd place, with Alex Williams and his team being disqualified for being over an hour late at Check-In and having to be fetched by car!

Ultimate winners though were Charles Cotton and his team, who were presented with the much sought after Lavatory Seat!!!

30/09/10 - Night Maze

Over 30 explorers decended on the Maze-in-Maize, for a night of fun in the darkness.  Fortunately no-one got lost, but there were plenty of very muddy clothes!

12/09/10 - New Year

The 2010/2011 year is now in full swing, and is aiming to be as packed as the last year was!

August Bank Holiday Unit Summer Camp

The unit took their summer camp to Tom Thumb Holt Campsite, Spilsby.

2 long days walking for award work were rewarded with a break on Skegness beach on the Monday with Fish and Chips.

For the Chief Scouts Diamond Group, Saturday night turned out to be a night of true survival!!!
